Debswana Solar Water Heating

In preparation for self-sustainability, SOS Children’s Villages Botswana has come up with strategies to increase its impact, with reduced running costs. Over the years these strategies have been put in place. One of these is turning our Villages into green hubs as much possible. All the SOS Children’s Villages Botswana centres have boreholes and use underground water for watering the gardens. This reduces water bills. This year SOS Children’s Villages Botswana Tlokweng started the use of solar water heaters, a project sponsored by Debswana. This project is estimated to cut the electricity cost by 30 percent. This is a very welcome development. With the world going green, the intention is to upgrade the project in the coming years to fully use solar energy for both heating and lighting, and we welcome any partner to support us with that project.
