At just 11 years old, Kemo Basimanebotlhe arrived at SOS Children’s Village, Francistown with his 9-year-old sister, stepping into a new chapter filled with love, care, and possibility. From the very beginning, Kemo stood out as a disciplined, respectful, and responsible young boy.

Mama Sheila Billy, who became a mother to him within the SOS family, fondly recalls, ‘Kemo displayed good leadership skills and a high level of responsibility from a very tender age.’”

Mama Sheila has been an SOS Mother for 20 years, dedicating her life to raising and nurturing children who have lost parental care. Her commitment, along with that of all our SOS Mothers, remains at the heart of our mission. We extend our deepest appreciation to her, to the entire SOS caregiving team, and to all the programme staff bo malome (uncles) le bo mane (aunties) who walk this journey of mentorship and guidance with our children every day.

Kemo’s Path to Success

Fast forward to 2025:
Kemo now proudly holds a Diploma in Primary Education and serves as a committed teacher at Dawn Bell Academy. Driven by passion and a desire to serve others, he has also earned certifications in:

• Special Education

• Trainer of Trainers

• Customer Service

• Mind Education

His journey into the teaching profession came through guidance from Ndiko Muzila, owner and founder of Dawn Bell Academy, who helped connect him to meaningful opportunities. Reflecting on his growth, Kemo shared these heartfelt words:
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to SOS Children’s Villages for the love, care, and support I received from a young age. After my mother passed on, SOS gave me not just a shelter, but also an opportunity to live my dream.”

As his journey continues, Kemo is set to begin his Bachelor's studies in 2026, further expanding his knowledge and preparing to serve even more children in the future.
