SOS Children’s Village Tlokweng had the pleasure of welcoming the China Medical Team (Fujian) in Botswana for a meaningful day of service, health education, and community support. Their visit was part of their outreach in celebration of The day of the African Child, a day that honours the rights and potential of children across the continent.

Giving Beyond the Clinic

In a powerful gesture of solidarity and compassion, The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Botswana made a cash donation of P10,000 to SOS Children’s Villages in Botswana in support of the ongoing care for children in need. This contribution will directly support efforts to provide safe housing, education, nutrition, and emotional support to vulnerable children in the Tlokweng village. The 17th China (Fujian) Medical Team and the Charity Association of Chinese in Botswana (CACB) donated medication/drugs, hygiene, school and sports supplies and toys.

A comprehensive health education session, where the medical team shared valuable knowledge on the prevention of infectious diseases in children; a critical topic for both caregivers and youth. Through engaging discussions and interactive learning, children and staff gained a deeper understanding of how to protect themselves and those around them from common illnesses.

A live demonstration on proper handwashing techniques was a highlight of the session. The team emphasized the importance of good hygiene as a first line of defense against many diseases. The children eagerly participated, practicing the correct steps and asking insightful questions.

In addition to the educational session, the visit featured an on-site medical consultation clinic, staffed by 14 doctors and 5 nurses, who offered free consultations to children, caregivers, and members of the surrounding community. This generous outreach brought much-needed health services directly to families who might not otherwise have access to regular medical care.

Celebrating this initiative during in commemoration of The Day of the African Child added special meaning, as we collectively strive to ensure that every child on the continent is given the opportunity to survive, thrive, and grow into their full potential.

Together, through partnerships like these, we move closer to a world where every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect, and security.
