Finally the last lap of an emotional farewell of the National Director of SOS Children's Villages in Botswana, Mr Motshwari Kitso. The event was graced by Honourable Councillor Ntwaetsile Tiro, Kgosana (Sub-Chief) Petso Lindiwe Matsetse, members of the Board, the community of Tlokweng, SOS staff, children, sponsors, partners, and other stakeholders.

Many speakers described Mr Kitso as a humble man whose journey began as a Village Father. Through resilience, commitment, and exceptional service, he rose to the role of National Director — a position he served with dedication until his retirement. He was affectionately regarded as a father to many; he walked with countless children in our care from infancy to adulthood, witnessing many grow into respectable men and women in society.

Mrs. Motshwari Kitso affirmed these reflections by sharing how her family embraced his calling.
“I made peace with the fact that with my husband, it is SOS first, our children second, and myself,” she said proudly. Their biological children grew up within the Village alongside other childrens, and to this day, SOS remains a second home to them. Mr. Kitso truly loved what he did and welcomed his family into the work he was so passionate about.

Guest speakers including fellow National Directors, staff representatives, an SOS Mother, and a former youth echoed the same sentiments: that Mr. Kitso was a father to all and served with love, humility, and passion. The crowd nodded in agreement, recognising the truth in every word.

Despite the blazing sun, the atmosphere was filled with joy and celebration. The SOS Marimba group entertained guests with their lively performance. Our young children presented a touching dance routine for their “father.” The SOS Mothers’ Choir performed a beautifully composed choral piece in his honour. Poetry and songs added to the emotional tone of the day.

In his heartfelt speech, Mr. Kitso reflected on his journey of how he joined SOS as a young man and spent a significant part of his life serving the organisation. He was later showered with gifts, each one thoughtful and meaningful, especially as many reflected his great love outside the office: farming.

The programme ended beautifully, followed by feasting, laughter, and warm conversations.
