SOS Children’s Village, Francistown Hosts Heartfelt Farewell for Mr. Motshwari Kitso

SOS Children’s Villages in Botswana recently marked a significant moment in its history as SOS Children's Village, Francistown hosted a vibrant, emotional and heartfelt farewell celebration in honour of Mr. Motshwari Kitso our long-serving National Director. The event brought together children, SOS Mothers, staff members, community stakeholders, and partners to celebrate an extraordinary leader whose legacy spans 29 remarkable years.  

 

A Legacy of Dedicated Service

For nearly three decades, Mr. Kitso has been at the centre of child welfare and protection efforts at SOS Children’s Villages in Botswana. His journey reflects unwavering commitment, exceptional diligence, and a deep belief in the right of every child to grow up in a safe, caring, and loving family environment.

Under his leadership, SOS Children’s Villages has strengthened long-term family-like care, expanded community programmes, empowered youth transitioning to independence, and built solid partnerships that continue to sustain the organisation’s mission.

The farewell celebration honoured both his professional leadership and the personal impact he made within SOS Children's Villages in Botswana, offering guidance to children, supporting SOS Mothers, and inspiring staff with his humility and passion.

National Recognition of His Impact

Earlier this year, Mr. Kitso’s lifelong contribution to child welfare was recognised nationally when he was named among Botswana’s Top 100 Most Influential CEOs. This national honour is a testament to his, strong organisational leadership, compassionate approach to child protection consistent advocacy for vulnerable children, ability to inspire teams and partners, enduring commitment to community development. 

His influence reaches well beyond SOS Children’s Villages touching the wider child protection sector in Botswana through his dedication, advocacy, and collaborative spirit.

 

Celebrating a True Champion of Children

During the farewell ceremony, heartfelt speeches and tributes highlighted Mr. Kitso’s enduring legacy. Children expressed gratitude for his kindness and encouragement. SOS Mothers reflected on his support and guidance. Staff and partners shared messages of appreciation for his leadership and unwavering belief in the SOS mission.

“O mogaka rra! Re a leboga!” These words echoed throughout the event, honouring a leader who has given his all to serve Botswana’s children with dignity, compassion, and excellence.
