In a heartfelt ceremony held over the weekend, SOS Children’s Village Francistown honoured the retirement of three long-serving caregivers whose devotion and compassion have shaped the lives of countless children over the years. The event celebrated the remarkable journeys of Ms. Tshepiso Malanga, Ms. Kemmonye Cassim, and Ms. Kelebogile Keorapele; women whose commitment to caregiving has left an indelible mark on the SOS community.

Tshepiso Malanga

Originally from Ratholo, Ms. Malanga began her caregiving journey with SOS Children’s Village Francistown on April 1st 2001 at the age of 36. Reflecting on her early days, she recalled the emotional complexity of stepping into a household filled with children from diverse cultural backgrounds. Despite her initial uncertainty, Ms. Malanga quickly learned that love, empathy, and unwavering loyalty were the keys to creating a nurturing home. Over the years, she became not just a caregiver but a mother figure to many, offering guidance and warmth with an open heart.

Kemmonye Cassim

Joining the SOS family on June 1st 2001, Ms. Cassim came to Francistown from Nswazi at a time when she was facing personal hardships. She was welcomed into a bustling household of more than ten children, each with unique needs and stories. Ms. Cassim rose to the occasion, treating every child with equal love and care. Her bond with the children grew so strong that she introduced them to her own family—building a bridge between two worlds and fostering relationships that transcended her professional role.

Kelebogile Keorapele

On December 3rd 2007, while most were preparing to spend the festive season with family, Ms. Keorapele received news that would mark the beginning of a transformative chapter in her life. Walking through the gates of SOS Children’s Village Francistown for the first time, she embraced a calling that would span 16 years. Drawing from her previous experience as a domestic worker, she quickly adapted to the environment and flourished in her role. The most bittersweet part of her journey, she shared, was saying goodbye to children when they reunited with their families of origin—moments filled with both pride and emotional difficulty.

SOS Children’s Villages Botswana extends its deepest gratitude to these three incredible women for their unwavering service, resilience, and heartfelt dedication. Over the years, they have provided more than just shelter and meals—they have created safe, loving homes and have been powerful role models for the children in their care.
