After many years of selfless service, two dedicated mothers from SOS Children's Village in Serowe have retired, leaving behind an indelible mark on the organization and the countless children whose lives they touched. Their farewell ceremony, held in their honor, was attended by various esteemed individuals, including the National Director of SOS Children's Villages Botswana, Mr. Motshwari Kitso, Senior Management, Guest Speaker Kgosi Peter Seretse, sponsors, and other valued stakeholders. The first retiree’s journey with SOS Children’s Village began 21 years ago, a story rooted in both personal experience and deep inspiration. She first became involved when she enrolled her son in the SOS Children's Villages kindergarten in Francistown. Moved by the organization’s profound compassion for children in need of care, she was drawn to join the Village. Her path later led her to play an instrumental role in the establishment of the Serowe village in 2007. Despite the many challenges she faced, including caring for children with special needs, she embraced her role with grace and perseverance. Over the years, she raised more than 50 children, and the rewards of seeing them grow into responsible, independent adults brought her immeasurable joy. Her legacy will continue to resonate with every child she helped nurture.

A Career Built on Purpose and Impact

The second retiree’s remarkable 25-year journey with SOS Children’s Villages Botswana began through an unexpected yet life-changing conversation. Encouraged by a friend, she applied for a position at the Village, motivated by a strong desire to support her daughter. Her journey took her to the Serowe Village, where she contributed significantly to its establishment in 2009. Over her distinguished career, she cared for over 50 children, including triplets and children with disabilities, each one a testament to her love, patience, and dedication. She also attended more than 50 training sessions, continuously improving her skills to provide the best care possible. Her dedication was recognized with a prestigious long-service award from the President of SOS Children's Villages, a well-deserved honor for her tireless commitment to the mission of the organization.
