Standard Chartered Bank Donation Towards Flooding Disaster Relief

Standard Chartered Botswana recently handed over Emergency Relief Vouchers worth P360 000.00 to SOS Children's Villages Botswana in a ceremony held our offices this week.

These vouchers are aimed at providing immediate assistance to those most affected by the recent floods, with a particular focus on children. The affected areas include Tlokweng, D'kar, Ghanzi, and Francistown.

The National Director of SOS Children's Villages Botswana expressed sincere gratitude for the relief vouchers, emphasizing how crucial they are in providing much-needed support to communities impacted by the recent floods. He acknowledged that this assistance would not have been possible without the support of corporate partners like Standard Chartered and thanked them for their ongoing long-term partnership as part of their Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives.

Ms. Bame Moremong, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand & Marketing at Standard Chartered Bank, expressed immense pride and shared that both SC and SOS align closely in their CSI strategies, focusing on community development, education, and disaster relief. She emphasized that SOS was the ideal NGO partner for these efforts. She highlighted that this assistance would be an ongoing initiative, carried out in different stages. At this point, the focus is on addressing immediate needs, such as providing clothing, shoes, blankets, and school uniforms for children. The final stage will focus on the recovery phase, where they will assist those affected in rebuilding and moving forward after the floods. 

Tlokweng MP, Honourable Phenyo Mokete Segokgo was also very grateful for Standard Chartered and SOS Children's Villages Botswana efforts. He added that Tlokweng was first it hit by the floods from the flow of water coming from the Republic of South Africa, as a result they evacuated 45 people to places of safety followed by 661 people as the floods intesified.

The handover event was also attended by several dignitaries, including Deputy District Commissioner Kebatshabile Tsie, Kgosi Taukobong Kgosimore Lesunyana/Mafitlhakgosi, Deputy CS Operations Boitumelo Pule, SC Botswana Education Trust Board Member Ms Mpho Rabasha.
