Disaster preparedness as a cross-cutting issue for child care programs is important because there is a good chance an emergency will happen at some point including disasters. Thus planning for emergencies and disasters builds community and family resilience, supports optimal child development, and promotes healthy and safe child care before, during and after a disaster. SOS Children's Villages Botswana is currently in the development of a roadmap for a coordinated and capacitated response team and sharing of intelligence to avert future disaster situations within the organization. This initiative will also equip families and communities with the skills and resources needed to respond effectively to emergencies, ensuring protection and care of children and young people during crises.
