Olebogeng

"My name is Olebogeng Dlamini-Makgatlhe. I am a wife and mother to 2 beautiful girls working as an Immigration Administrator. I came to SOS Children’s Village Tlokweng as a baby, and I grew up under the loving care of mama Nana until I graduated at the University of Botswana with a Bachelor’s Degree and later on completed a Masters program in Economics. I am truly thankful to SOS Children’s Villages for the love, the protection, the nurturing I received throughout my stay there."

More than 5 000 children have been cared for through the Alternative Care Programme. SOS Children’s Villages in Botswana enables children to grow in a caring family environment through 11 programmes across 12 villages in Botswana.

SOS Children

SOS Children's Villages Serowe was funded entirely by local organisations and became operational in 2008. It has 12 family homes, administrative buildings, staff quarters, and a kindergarten. In 2016, 2 SOS families moved 3 kilometers away from Serowe, to live independently, fostering integration with the local community. This initiative continued with 2 additional families relocating in 2017 and 2019. The strategy has proven effective, with further relocations planned for the future.

Children have rights and it is important for them to know their rights, to understand how they should be treated, and how they should treat others.

Meet the Champ Percy

Percy came to SOS Children’s Village as a baby and right from early childhood, he has been excelling, not only in his academics but in other extra-curricular activities until he finally settled to pursue his talent in tennis. From the first day he entered the tennis courts, Percy never looked back together with a few other ‘stars’ from SOS Tlokweng. Their commitment attracted sponsors, and this has since seen them playing tennis at international tennis courts in Sweden and France annually.
